Katsina Civil Society Group Calls on President Tinubu to Restore Fuel Subsidy, Tackle Northwest Security Challenges

On Thursday, August 1, 2024, the Katsina State Civil Society Organization called on President Bola Ahmad Tinubu to reinstate the fuel subsidy and tackle the persistent security challenges in Northwestern Nigeria. The organization submitted a written petition to the President through the acting Governor of Katsina State, Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe.

In his address while presenting the petition, the president of the organization, Comrade Abdulrahman Dutsinma, urged the President to reinstate the fuel subsidy, emphasizing that its removal had contributed to the current economic hardship. He also called on the President to intensify efforts in addressing the security issues plaguing Northwestern Nigeria, noting that despite the efforts of the state governors, the situation had escalated beyond their control.

Furthermore, Comrade Dutsinma appealed to the President to monitor the commercial sector closely, as the economic strain on the populace required urgent relief measures.

In his response, after receiving the petition, Acting Governor Hon. Faruk Lawal Jobe commended the youth for their thoughtful approach and for refraining from acts of violence. He assured them that their concerns would be conveyed to the President as requested. He also reaffirmed the Katsina State government's commitment under the leadership of Malam Dikko Umar Radda to continue working for the welfare of the state's citizens.

The event was attended by notable figures including the Minister of Housing, Arc. Ahmad Dangiwa, the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Daura, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Abdullahi Garba Faskari, and the Chief of Staff to the Katsina State Government, Hon. Jabiru Tsauri. Other attendees included executive council members, legislators, state APC leaders, civil society groups, and various other stakeholders.
